Da-dao-cheng Presbyterian Church
The original chapel was built in 1915, and the Church planned to build a new chapel in 2002 on the same site, and came into conflict with Culture Bureau of the City, and in turn demolished a part of main façade. KSA was asked by the Church to mediate and design the Project after the incident. With 4 years of review and coordination, it was agreed upon by the City and the Church that an addition is permitted with the premise that the remaining walls shall be preserved and restored and also the chapel space shall be remained at ground level. The addition shall accommodate various fellowship activities and community works. Design works inlcude honest rebuilding of existing chapel walls, and provide a complementary, instead of contrasting design of the new and the old. Roof of extended chapel space shall be supported by a crisp gluelam system. This approach of the classical and the modern, the old and the new, is aimed to integrate elements in space as well as in time.
