TVBS STUDIO, Nankang

The building was originally a simple industrial shed. The existing ridge and bulkhead used for machine room at front elevation became design issues. A new metal skin is applied by first coding the surface with regulating color stripes. Windows are provided according to activities inside, which help to create depth on exterior skin and a vibrating fenestration releases, the rigidity of solid, symmetrical box. An illuminating screen is provided at the front elevation, which helps to transforms the awkward proportion. It is shielded with louvers made of custom aluminum extrusions and placed at various angles to provide slight but subtle difference from various viewpoints. This screen is reminiscent of an opening eye, a sign, a television screen, and a transmitter of information. Its multiplicity of metaphors is also a metaphor of the role of mass media.
