TAIWAN HIGH COURT TAINAN BRANCH COURT

CONCEPT
In the last few decades, courthouse design is divided into two major trends in architecture styles: on the one hand classical architecture languages are strongly referenced for its symbolic value as perfect order while Modernism is applied as metaphor of everyone’s friendly judicial services.

The Client holds strong preference for modernized classical expression as well as sustainability design.
The orderly, clearly layered, and richly-textured façade with both Classicism and Modernism essence that provide sense of order, serenity, that appeals to sublimity as well as accessibility of Justice system. There are also references from Tainan’s historical buildings that also enhance affinity to become a new urban artifacts.

The design also applies lightweight steel structure, aluminum curtain wall system, light-weight and recyclable materials to provide enlightened and sequenced spaces that are both orderly, free-flowing, and with wellness concerns.

INTERIOR SPACE PLANNING
Behind the glass façade with arch element, main lobby is a three-story high atrium with abundant natural light that provides the function of gallery to provide a pleasing atmosphere. Center of the H-shaped floor plan is a round atrium that connects various floors and public/control cores. Monumental stair provides vertical circulation as well visual connection.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN
With entry level raised by half a floor, the site is arranged with gentle slope with car and pedestrian ramps/stair, as well as multi-layered planting. The symmetrical and ceremonial layout echoes the building design, and compose a friendly, open, and serene public park.
