ZHONG YA HOUSING

HsinChu (literally means New Bamboo) City has faced surging real estate price as well as housing demands due to burgeoning economy propelled by Science Park. National Housing and Urban Renewal Center programs ZongYa social housing project of 640 units at the City’s North District, in hope of meeting housing demand as well as inducing vitality to this area with relative slower growth in the past.

The site faces YenPing street to its north, an existing DaPeng public housing and LinYun Park to its south. The program is met by North Block (15 stories) and South Block (21 stories) to provide more diversified urban contour from without and perspectives from within. Both blocks are of“Z”shaped plan that provide longest peripheral exposure; and are placed to provide a 26 meter square central courtyard as core of the community. In the meantime, east part of the site is left as open as possible to provide better link between LinYun Park and YenPing street.

Images of bamboo and linear pattern of motherboard are applied as image references. Major façade materials include face bricks. Aluminum grills, frames, panels, and glass. Clear and yet subtle geometric patterns with plays of in-and-out and colors provide a monumental scale while maintaining significance of basic residential unit.
