Taiwan Tan Chong Auto World ZhongLi Plant

The Site is at ZhongLi Industrial Park, which has 40 year history and witnessed Taiwan's evolvement from traditional, electronic, and currently logistic industries. Its proximity to Taipei City, No. 1 hightway, and Taoyuan International Airport brought a new revival.

The original building was completed in 1993, a 2-story reinforced concrete structure built for car assembly and warehouse with car ramps linking different floors. Its 200 by 40 meter volume is slender and long. In 2010 a latter user added half of 3rd floor with steel structure to accommodate electronic production.

Taiwan Tan Chong Auto World intends to fill up the 3rd floor addition, and transforms the whole facility back to car assembly, warehouse, office, and show room for its Subaru cars.

Design tasks include structure reinforcement and addition to meet current code, and also to provide best circulation to accommodate various uses.

Like Neihu Headquarters, the design targets to emphasize the mobility and fluidity of cars by accentuating the length and ramp. Exterior materials is composed of horizontal strips of windows and two tones of zinc panels to provide a sense of "infinity and beyond". Along with Neihu building, this new facility targets to provide a branding image for the power and manuverbility of Subaru cars.
